Cameras and Typewriters
As the story goes, it was a stormy evening in Havana, over cocktails, when famous author Ernest Hemingway met famous photographer Irving Penn. Impressed by the quality of his work, Hemingway complimented Penn, "Good pictures, what camera do you use?" Penn smiled as he responded, "What typewriter do you use?"
Whether this encounter happened or not, the point is clear: art is not made by camera only. The camera, whether a simple point-and-shoot or a sophisticated precision instrument, is only the tool. It is the craftsman who uses the tool who creates the art.
